Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the current and future generations. Secondly, it is a learning process, where the community is engaged in learning ways of attaining a just future for all, in all aspects of life, that is socially, economically, politically and the care for the physical environment.
the community around the university is ravaged by high unemployment rate, food shortage and poor agricultural practices. our change project is aimed at improving the livelihood of the present community, so that the future of generations will be better.
As we assist the present community through education for sustainable development, a more just future for all is guaranteed..
the community members will be trained on traditional agricultural practices, like drip irrigation for water preservation, the use of heap farming, use of compost instead of fertilizers, to minimize impacts of fertilizers on the soils and the produce. We will make use of old newspaper, metals and other recyclable that improve the soil structure and fertility.
Our ESD work will be informed by the two definitions of sustainable development in that, whilst the livelihoods of current community is improved, that will translate into improved lives of future generations. Secondly, education for sustainable development will be used as a tool and a learning process to share new ways of attaining satisfactory livelihoods in the community.
